Review on Enhanced Chipolo ONE (2020) - Ultra Loud Water Resistant Bluetooth Key Finder (Black) by Eric Dailey

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Better than Tile, but not all.

The main reason I chose Chipolo tiles over it is out of range functionality. The out-of-range feature, if enabled, should send a notification as soon as the Bluetooth connection between the Chipolo and the phone is lost. This is very useful if you forgot your item and were notified almost immediately. Tile has a similar feature, but it's in beta and part of a premium plan that costs $30 a year. I have a Samsung Note 10+ and needed to make sure I turned on location sharing and set the app to not go to sleep (battery optimization). After being satisfied that all the settings were correct, I decided to check it out. Unfortunately, I couldn't get it to run stably. I tried leaving the keys in the car and walking 200 feet from the car but I didn't get any notifications. I've tried the test several times with no success. However, I got notifications several times when I had a Chipolo in one pocket and a phone in the other. Support: I tried the FAQ during testing, and the FAQ is very general. Not much information on the Out of Range feature or troubleshooting. There is a Samsung phone setup topic that I followed. I tried to get some information from support. Unfortunately, unlike Thile, there is no chat in Chipolo. The only way is to send an email. Chipolos are located in Europe and their support is in European mean time. It may take at least 24 hours before you receive a reply, sometimes longer. So far I have received an answer but with general information which can be found in the FAQ section. I bought a pack of 4 to keep one for myself and give to my other kids. I hope this works better on iPhone and Pixel 3. If not, I'll have to return it and look for something else.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Requires an outlet
