Review on Sony IER M7 In Ear Monitor Headphones by Richard Payne

Balanced Armature Bass Kills Phenomenal Sound

Excellent tuning. In no way offensive. The bass is easy to dose and does not overwhelm the rest of the frequency range. The middle is just as attractive. Instruments/vocals are lush and smooth. The highs are very well done. Extended and detailed enough to detail things, but not so sharp that it produces sibilance. All in all, this is a well-done piece that's fun and interesting to listen to, while being detailed enough to show parts of the sound that you might have missed before. The packaging is well done. The 3.5mm and 4.4mm cables are easily the best cables I have used. They don't get tangled and create a feeling of weightlessness. The products may be plastic, but they have the usual Sony polish, fit and quality you'd expect. You'll also get tons of tips to make finding a comfortable fit easier. Why am I sending them back after all this? Because it's a BA faucet with a BA bass! The amount of bass is perfectly balanced, but its quality is just insane. The bass is felt as it is heard, but the balanced armature renders the bass notes monophonic; It's like playing an electric keyboard. This was my first fully balanced anchor set and I'm unlikely to go down that route again. Even the cheapest dynamic drivers sound more realistic in terms of bass. So is it worth buying? If you're looking for a luxurious-sounding pair that's surprisingly comfortable (in my case) and easy to listen to all day without worrying about missing out on some visceral bass feel, this pair most likely ticks the box She. I compared them to the older brother M9 and found them to be too harsh (high frequencies) for me. I enjoy them immensely. Sony please make a similar sounding pair that doesn't cost as much as the Z1R!
