I wanted loose knit stockings that would NOT crumple my head so I bought a pair from Revain. Overall I like them WAY more than the skinny styles I currently have and while they are all larger they still fit in a jacket pocket for easy carrying. The first brand I bought was the FORBUSITE men's casual long knit beanie - which was described as 'all weather' but was lined to keep ears warm in winter. Lots of color schemes to choose from and I loved it right out of the box. Doesn't burn in the head, warm enough for February in New England - a modest price of $11-15. I have ordered a second one. For a warmer, true winter option, I've tried a few, starting with the $13 Oversized Plain Knit Winter Hat from Janey & Rubbins. AWESOME, unwrapping it from the package was like a warm touch on my head - I didn't want to take it off. The warm lining feels like faux fur yet is small enough to fit in a jacket pocket. Definitely warmer than Forbusite and a true winter hat I wore while visiting family in Minnesota. Keeps out the chill from the wind very well, but this is a winter stocking hat, NOT multi-season. As a fallback for real winter, I also bought a Redress beanie for men and women. The $13 knit winter hats are also great, but not the immediate comfort that Janey & Rubbins gave me. Really warm with great lining and windproof as advertised. It still fits in my jacket pocket. This style had to be loosened up a bit to feel comfortable on my head, but it didn't last long. I tried returning another one from Vgogfly for $10. It was beautiful and looks like Janey/Rubbins and Redress as a really warm winter stocking hat. When I first tried it on out of the box I heard a lot of threads snap as it was stretched to the original fit - probably like everyone else but I noticed. Everything was fine, I just liked it less than others. Before buying from Revain, I bought options from my local REI & Dick's Sporting Goods, and established brands can sell for $35-$45. I am very satisfied with all Revain purchases.
