As with any home improvement project, follow the instructions, plan carefully, check and double check before removing the adhesive backing. I used a pencil to mark the line afterwards, I would suggest using masking tape to make sure the tape is straight and even. Then I drew the corner of the backing just 3 inches at a 45 degree angle. I made sure the tip is very straight on the line I drew. I made sure all the air bubbles were gone, only then did I pull about another inch off the backing to confirm there were no more air bubbles and continued until all of the backing was removed. As instructed I hung the shelf and waited 10 hours before adding weights, great results so far.
