Review on ACCEL 11069 Distributor Cylinder Applications by Scott Vazquez

Cheap plastic - valves and parts

The kit looks very nice and the best part is you can actually see sparks as the rotor spins. However, my kit had a clean rotor that matched the distributor cap. I installed both the rotor and lid and it was a breeze. About 3 months later, while driving at 65 km/h on the Autobahn, my car suddenly made a noise and started to slow down. Luckily I managed to pull over to the side of the road in time before the car came to a complete stop. When I opened the hood, I quickly noticed that the rotor was broken and the cover was cracked. Luckily, less than 3 minutes later a Caltrans tow truck came to the rescue, pulled my car off the freeway and parked it in a residential area. The tow truck driver also noticed the broken rotor through the clear cover and said that this is a common problem with clear covers/rotors. He said he wouldn't recommend them because they tend to crack or loosen as the engine heats up. Well, I remembered that when I installed the clear cover and rotor, I put the old parts in the trunk of my car. I'm so glad I forgot to throw them away because they saved me! I quickly got to work replacing the transparent parts with the old ones. The hardest part was removing the metal rotor ring that was stuck around the distributor rod. To get it I wrapped it in old coax cable and carefully pulled it out. After installation, the car started and drove normally! I was able to become a volunteer at my son's school in time. Overall I would not recommend this item, looks great but not durable. If you buy one, keep your old parts in the trunk in case you need them in the future.

Pros
  • Hands free operation
Cons
  • Definitely bad product
