I love this tool. It works well indoors as long as you're not in bright light. In a large room with a lot of light, it is very difficult to see the line. I believe that red tinted glasses designed for use with lasers will solve this problem. In a room with average light (whatever it is) it works great. Someone else said that the further away you are, the wider the line gets. That's true, but it's not really a hindrance. Of course it would be nice to have a really thin line at 50ft, but you have to spend a lot more than this tool is worth. It also works very well outdoors, but only because I bought a Dewalt DW0892 digital line laser detector to work with. My yard is 150 feet deep and I was able to use it to its full depth with no issues. In summary, the (minor) downsides for me are that 1) It's a little hard to see in a very bright room. 2) The carrying case must have a compartment for an optional line detector as you need to buy one for outdoor use. The line detector does not have its own housing, and DeWalt does not make one. Besides, even if there were, who wants to carry the boxes?
