Pre huge value.

I didn't know what to expect from a stereo at this price point. You used to be able to go to a car radio show and buy no-name stereos for next to nothing, but they were literally garbage. I half expected to get something like this here, but it really couldn't be further from the truth. It's good. It's a far cry from what you'll get from the Kenwood or Alpine in terms of looks or performance, but at 10-20% you're a fool to expect that. In this case, I sincerely think you can get more than your money's worth. It's rated for 50W x 4 max power, but RMS power is in the 8-10W range. I'm sure if I took the top off I'd find a TDA digital amp lying around . It doesn't make much noise and too much volume just introduces distortion, but at normal listening volume? It is excellent. Wiring is simple, using the standard colors grey/white/green/light for the speakers and red/black/yellow/blue for the power supply. This is a very thin caliber - 18 ga or so - which gives an idea of its power. The variable display color is a nice feature, but any of the darker colors will cause the display to become invisible in the sun - my stereo is mounted high in the dash and with the green backlight on the display can be blank. It's not a problem for me, I never look at it. I found it to be able to play 32GB FAT32 formatted USB and SDHC cards which is 80% of what I expect from it. Radio reception is satisfactory at best, picking up (and reproducing) a significant amount of noise. If you drive a new Lexus, you'll notice that. If you're driving a 30-year-old car with the windows down, you won't. (If you drive a Lexus with a $20 stereo, what's wrong with you?) I didn't check the Bluetooth connectivity. I will never use it and I don't care. The plastic top looks and feels cheap, but it is. The buttons all feel good - easy to find, nice positive touch. The controls are fairly standard and intuitive. You don't need a manual if you've used a car radio before, but I would like to note that the manual is complete and easy to understand, which was a surprise. Overall this stereo reminds me a lot of what you saw in a low end 15 year old Clarion. In fact, there is nothing to offend! I needed a car stereo that I literally paid $500 for, so I didn't want to pay Kenwood a lot of money to fix this problem. I can't imagine this car surviving more than a few months but it will be interesting to see if its stereo survives!

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Older model
