I bought this unit because passive filters are not suitable if you are struggling with claustrophobia and safety glass fogging. The device is great for getting cool, clean air on the face in tight spaces and also prevents the face shield from fogging up. The seat is secure and comfortable even with a full beard. Some flaws prevent me from giving a full 5 star rating. The charger and plug are unique and expensive to replace. The connector from the motor to the battery was worn inside and I had to bend the wire in the right direction to start the fan as it slid off the ground. $350 for a new fan with wire just for that. After the replacement I will reinforce the wire at the connector with an inch of electrical tape and a spring. The weight of the engine on your chin can cause fatigue over time. The cable management isn't thought through, hence the strain on the connector that caused my rejection. Replacement filters are not cheap, and the fiberglass insulation can clog the filter in no time. The filters also do not have a washable pre-filter. The air compressor can blow through the filters to get more benefit, but the flow will still be reduced. Tights didn't help the pre-filter because the 1 inch hole in the main filter still clogs quickly. I've had limited success cutting off the bottom of the Solo cup and using it to compensate for the pantyhose wrapping around the filter. While struggling with these shortcomings, I can still give 4 stars as the alternatives are much worse.
