Review on 🚲 Thule Yepp Rear Rack: Enhancing Convenience and Versatility by Robert Diaz

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great solid stand but experienced installer required

First of all the stand is very sturdy and well made. This gives me confidence that it will hold my child and the seat. I have a Trek X-Caliber 7. Finding a child seat carrier is almost impossible. This is one of the few carriers, along with Giant, Toppeak and many others, that specifically state that they can work with a child seat. When I received the stand I was very pleased with the finish and construction. This is a very good shelf. Now for the bad, as others have said, it doesn't have all the necessary hardware. I'm a very hands-on/experienced person with the right tools, so the installation wasn't too difficult for me, just took a while. To get it working on my Trek X-Caliber 7 mountain bike I had to buy 2 more m5 hex bolts for the main mount. I recommend stainless screws. I used blue Loctite on all the screws that were tightened to 8Nm. Next this is the hardest part, my bike has a 17.5 inch frame so I had to use the longest racks with the pannier rack. The problem is that the longest racks are welded together for use in a slightly different assembly application Dremel to cut any welds to separate the longer uprights. Then I used an angle grinder to clean up the spot welds and then painted the posts black in those sanded areas so they wouldn't rust. Then I had to use the posts in a vise to bend them at the right angle and then rotate them slightly in the vise so they lay flat on the bike frame posts and post mount. I was finally able to line up the post and all the screws together! Everything seems to be working great so far and very solid! I would give 5 stars if they put the longest uprights in a non-welded configuration so I wouldn't have to make any modifications and if they included the bottom mounting bolts. The instructions don't show how to attach the lower piece and I hope they didn't expect it to be a 77 pound axle carrier.
