We use them to fish for bass - sometimes the soft plastic bait gets swallowed and I hate killing bass when I can avoid it. But for me they have to be used with 10" Knipex dykes from Germany. Yes, Knipex are expensive, but they ALWAYS cut through a hardened worm hook. Hook, then I cut the shank with Knipex. The hook comes with minimal trauma to the Rod out. I've read a lot of research on how to leave hooks in a perch's mouth - it gives us a better feeling, but these hooks don't actually rust and the fish usually die later. You'll have to dig deep to find this study .
