Review on Reese Towpower 7018100 Black Canoe Loader by Jon Cherian

The best I've ever used!

I won't lie, I had serious doubts when I saw this item in the box. But once installed (I opted for the included adapter plate which allows towing with a ball hitch when using a canoe loader), install my large 15.5ft Ascend C156 canoe on top of it with the CURT 22321 Anti-Rattle Kit and plug it tight. This canoe loader is durable, with four ratchet attachments. I have an F150 Supercrew with 4 rear attachment points so I ran two ratchet ties over the canoe and attached them to the 4 attachment points. Then I ran a ratchet cable from the post of this canoe loader through the cockpit to the nose grip for carrying the canoe; This prevented the canoe from sliding forward on the truck. I also ran a ratchet from the canoe's bow attachment point to the truck's bumper; This prevented the canoe from slipping off the truck. Since my truck doesn't have a roof rack, I used a Darby Industries 968 Black Roof Turbo Rack to keep the canoe off the top of the truck. As mentioned in other reviews, rubber anti-slip pads glued to the brand with glue are not good; They rolled off during my first short test rides. But even without them, the plastic faceguards barely scratched when seated on this supercharger's T-bar, even after a 2,500-mile ride. The best thing about this kit is the size; It takes up virtually no storage space when not in use. If you are considering this kit, go for it. But as I have pointed out, you must use ratchet fasteners to secure the entire rig as the strength of such a rig comes from the canoe being pressed against it. But the same applies to sets that cost the same in two and three bindings like this one.

Pros
  • Ideal for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Small items
