Review on Unlock Adventure with the WTB Riddler: Embrace Thrilling Paths and Unparalleled Versatility by Martin Alvarez

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Should be strong but durability and wear isn't impressive

My bike: Breezer Radar (Steel Gravel Wheel); Mavic A319 and A719 rims (not tubeless, but taped, valves and tubeless). Sometimes long rides on gravel. Exceptionally tubeless. I've ridden different tires and have 5 bikes (MTB (x2), Cargo, Gravel (x2)) so I have a bit of experience to sort out some of the differences. I can compare them to Clement MSO 700x40 (tubed), Schwalbe Thunder Burt 29x2.1, Panaracer Gravel King SK 700x40 and Specialized Sawtooth 700x42 (last 4 tubeless with Orange Seal). With experience, Riddlers feel they have slightly more rolling resistance than Gravel Kings, Thunder Burts and Sawtooths. Thunder Burts and Gravel Kings roll noticeably faster. I'd say they roll faster than the MSO Clement (pipes may be to blame). Gravel corners are best with them, with the exception of thunder burts; However, as thin as they are, at 30-35psi, I was disappointed with the combination of smooth ride and fast roll compared to other tires. As for the extra volume, I couldn't feel any extra cushioning/rollover or ease transferring momentum over coarse gravel compared to the Gravel Kings or Sawtooths (both tires are almost the same size compared to the Riddler 43 and 42mm respectively). ). 45 mm at Riddler). riddlers). They were superior to MSO; The MSOs weren't tubeless, though, so part of that difference may be down to the use of cameras. For general commuting (e.g. commuting, recreational driving, running errands) and tubeless use, I would not recommend these tires. With the tube and tire in place, Riddlers can be a solid solution. I'm on a 30 mile one way trip through Kansas City, Kansas and into rural Northeast Kansas. While the tread is more than adequate for my city riding, it's not very puncture resistant and seems to wear out very quickly on paved roads. On the last two trips home I had punctures so large that tubeless sealant alone could not seal the puncture. In one case it was permanently sealed with great care, in the second a rescue trip home was required. I would estimate both tires to have 300-500 miles of combined gravel and commuting use. In no case was I able to identify a specific object (such as a nail or glass) on the surface of the ground I was rolling on, which would obviously have caused a puncture. Although the price is attractive, the volume and tread pattern should be a versatile combination. On-road and off-road capabilities, the durability and lifespan of these tires are not on the same level as some of their counterparts. Sawtooth, and in no instance have glitches slowed or stopped my commute.
