Review on PowerA Fusion Wireless Arcade Stick for Nintendo Switch Lite, Fight Stick, Gamepad, Game Controller - Bluetooth Controller with AA Batteries - Nintendo Switch by Josh Koa

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Very good dedicated controller - with some caveats

I have to say I'm quite impressed with the build quality of this battle mat. It's made from quality materials, including a braided cable, and all the inputs look just right. Also very responsive. The ability to toggle the directional pad to emulate the left analog stick certainly comes in handy. Zelda fans might be disappointed that Link's Awakening doesn't natively support Dpad. This fixes it. It also allows you to use the dpad for Smash Bros, which I found to be an interesting perspective. However, I'm not sure why you would want to switch it to the right stick. I'm sure it has its uses, but I haven't come across it yet! . That means your inputs will be logged as successful inputs, meaning you'll be running anytime, anywhere. This makes the game's dash dance feel more fluid than before, but there's no easy way to just walk around. You can crouch and then rotate the D-pad sideways to start walking, but that's an unnecessary delay that can reduce reaction time. A simple fix for this would be to include some sort of analog modifier button that registers a slight tilt of the joystick when held, similar to some of the box's controllers. While it's primarily advertised for use in Smash, I realize that's its true purpose for traditional fighters. However, my main game is Ultimate, so I tried to do basic moves with Ryu in this game. Simply put, throwing fireballs and kite strikes felt more natural than trying to do the same with the analog stick. If a modifier button were implemented I would almost recommend it as a viable alternative controller for Smash. Unfortunately, there is another stumbling block. The features listed on this page and in the guide indicate that you can toggle the right bumper to act as a C-Stick for use in Smash. Although this switch exists, it doesn't register input into Smash. I used the switch's built in input tester to see what was wrong. It turns out that it registers as a click on the right joystick, effectively turning it into a dedicated R3 button. I can see where it could be useful in some other games, but it just doesn't work as advertised for Smash Bros. Because of this, I docked it with a 4-star rating. It's an awesome controller, but it's hard to sell unless you play a lot of fighting games.
