I have had a Tourna StringMeter for a number of years and it is a useful tool for measuring string tension on tennis racquets. You must follow the instructions for use to obtain reproducible and appropriate readings. Recently I noticed that some of the strings became tight on sitting, which is unlikely (except perhaps in natural gut when affected by moisture changes). In this case, with synthetic and poly strings, the tension is high because the strings have developed nicks or dents, allowing them to resist the probing force exerted by the teeth more than if they could move normally. You can get higher tension readings in one or both directions on a dented or jagged string base. Notches tend to affect mains and crosses differently, and string type will change that as well. relax time. :)
