My microphone is plugged into a mixer that is USB connected to my MacBook Pro. I use a Canon SL2, which I also connect to my MacBook Pro via USB to control the camera with Canon software. I connect an audio cable from the mixer to my Canon camera so I can feed audio straight from the microphone. When both devices were connected to the MacBook Pro via USB, I had a canon-picked hiss that was very loud even at the lowest setting of the preamp volume in the camera. Thanks to this ground loop isolator, the static is now completely gone and I don't hear any noticeable loss in sound quality. My expectations were justified and that's why I'm really happy.
