This otherwise very good unit has a design flaw. If for any reason the housing deviates from the vertical position, the oil in the sight glass will flow and create a capillary path along the edge of the glass and you will no longer see oil droplets. In this case, you must DISASSEMBLE the unit to remove ALL oil from the area before it resumes its intended sight glass function. I bought it to use "as needed" on a milling machine and a lathe to apply cutting lubricant and found this defect when I removed and reinstalled it. Even if the valve is closed and not working, oil residue in the sight glass will still do. You need to make the sight glass much larger in diameter, so a slight deviation from its perfectly vertical position will prevent this.
