I listen to various R&B, funk, old school rap, modern jazz, classic and alternative rock, metal. I was looking for a durable speaker with enough power for use in the garage or in the garden. I'm not an audiophile, but I like my music to sound clear enough to distinguish between vocals and main instruments. I had never heard of W-King but bought the D8 based on the many positive reviews and promo coupon. There are plenty of videos on YouTube comparing speakers under $100, and this speaker always comes out on top with its clean performance, strong bass and good mids and highs, even at high volumes. At its price (I paid around $60) I can understand why so many people like it. It is well made, portable, durable, easy to connect, has a powerful feature set and is easy to use. As for the sound, it wasn't what I was looking for. I find the W-King D8 to be more price-class than outstanding - punchy/booming bass at low volumes and compression/distortion at high volumes. Bass was good with the EQ turned off, but the mids and highs were weak and muddy. With the EQ on, the bass sounded about the same, but the mids and highs were more pronounced. Equalizer mode sounded noticeably better. Both modes were distorted at high volume. As for the 50W power output, most of that should go into the bass. While the bass wasn't as strong, my portable (but not robust) 32-watt speaker matched the volume of the W-King with much less distortion. Both speakers are in the same price range.
