Review on ๐Ÿ’ก HYKOLITY Dimmable Daylight Recessed Downlight: An Effective Lighting Solution by Jason Paredes

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Easy to install. with slight modification

If you put them in 5 inch jars they're great. Wonderful. 5 Stars. But if you put them in 6-inch jars, you're going to have trouble. The tabs that the springs attach to have two latches, and by default they go into the farthest latch. You would think it would be 5" on the inner mount and 6" on the outer mount, right? nope If you measure the springs on the outer detent, it's 5 inches. So you need to loosen the set screw and push the springs all the way out (where there is no detent so the springs can now move more than once). like) and tighten them. It should be 6 inches and that's when you measure it. But now there is another problem. The springs have multiple coils, which means the inner leg of the spring is *just* too far in to fit well in a 6 inch jar. You set the springs like this and try to go up in a 6 inch can, the springs keep popping out. You will never install it properly. The solution is to take a pair of pliers and bend the spring part a little square so it looks more like a 100 degree angle than a 90 degree angle (maybe not even that much). but more here is actually better). Now if you install the inner leg it will still pop up 2 out of 3 tries but you will eventually get it. And once it's in, it stays in until someone touches it, so that's "good enough" for now. Since I'll have to paint around the edges anyway (the light isn't to blame, it's a lazy painter I hired 10 years ago who painted the ceiling without pulling out the old light strips to paint to the edge of the hole), I'll probably flex the springs a little more before reinstalling them. I put them in my kitchen at 3000K. As others have said it's actually a bit colder than 3000K but that's ok because it matches my other 3000K lights but not really and I would like a slightly colder light in the kitchen (3500K was too cool). I will install more in the hallway and upstairs rooms and they will cost 2700k. They will last until I completely ditch my old cans and move on to better quality flush mount fixtures.

Cons
  • Questionable purchase for seniors
