Works like an air filter, that's all.

The filter is a filter, I've been in the car industry for many years, don't believe in the hype about special things in it, doesn't filter out any odors when most of the odors are after the filter. It filters out dust like a filter should. If you notice an odor when you turn on the air conditioning/heating, contact your mechanic!
