So last year I was looking for one of these wireless USB devices and reading reviews about it was nothing but bug stories. No matter what company I've looked at and no matter the price, they always have negative reviews that sound like they were just unlucky, and I don't like betting on expensive electronics. I needed one badly so thought I'd go with the cheap one as the reviews were good I figured it would at least work until I found a better solution. Well, that was last September (2010). ) and I never bothered to get a new one because I still couldn't find one (even more expensive) that I thought was reliable. This one worked fine for me, sometimes it seemed to randomly lose signal or go weak. etc. I just moved it and it seemed to fix it so I figured it was the position of the antenna. As it turns out, I found out today that it was broken. I haven't looked at this thing in a while because it's on the back of the computer, but I took out the graphics card to clean dust and eliminate fan noise when I noticed that half of the plastic shell was behind the case sat. I identified it as the body of the wireless adapter, or half of it, so I took the adapter out and noticed that it was really falling apart under the weight of the antenna! The thing is, the design of this thing sucks! I don't know who "designed" this layout, but that person really doesn't understand torque and mechanical advantages. The antenna is not supported by anything other than a plastic sleeve (which seems to be barely held together in my case) and SOLDER connecting the antenna to the PCB! So basically what happened was probably that the plastic didn't provide any support, the solder eventually broke (the break also looked like cold soldering, which may have contributed to this) and the plastic case pulled apart enough that one side of the fuselage fell off. out. The antenna was still connected (!) but just barely because the way it broke was pinching the pins on the board, so that was the only reason it was still working! When I "moved" it to fix it, I probably just reconnected the pins. In any case, if the design they are using stays the same (in fact they have a new picture of a different design where the antenna is no longer at the end of the PCB) it might not be a problem anymore (but could easily be). But without knowing otherwise, I'd assume this is still an issue (since it's so cheap) and consider it a decent fix that could fail in a month if you're unlucky, or a year or so so if you are out of luck. You got lucky. In case you're wondering, I still don't know of a decent "expensive" choice, but I haven't repeated the research yet. Consider playing it again at this price.
