So I used isopropyl alcohol and bathed him in it a few times. He also left a mark on the back of the lens. So the lens had to be spot cleaned, which stinks after the lens is perfect, and it's hard to do as well as having to clean deep in a pipe. So maybe more dunks in alcohol would help, but right now he has that limitation. For the price paid, no one expects it to come with a suction cup that leaves a mark right out of the box.
