This Arc Welder (SMAW) is convenient because it runs on a 120V 20A home network; it is well built, light weight and easy to carry; it worked for me straight away; The dialer setup is easy to understand; it's limited to light loads for 1/8" to 3/32" steel, you choose the right rod; and at $75 it's a great and useful value; I'm glad I bought it. (PS: If you're new to welding, don't give up on the first few tries - check out some tutorial videos on youtube.com and grab some scrap steel to practice so you're practiced.) You need to clean the flux slag after welding. I also bought the REQUIRED auto-darkening hood/helmet - $20-40 and leather welding gloves - $10-15. This is NOT a toy for children.
