At first I blocked the smell and somehow dissolved the stain but only diluted it. We had our first wet day and the smell returned with a vengeance. The UV light simply shows that the small spots are now larger, diluted spots. It really helps with blemish visibility. Your carpet will look much better under normal lighting. So that helps with some components of the stain. But it also drives the stain and odor deeper into the lining. It's probably really good for carpets and rugs that can be washed or sprayed from the outside, but I wouldn't recommend it for installed carpet or upholstery.
