Too bad for its price

Anyone who spends that much money on a PC monitor expects perfection. Unfortunately, this is the second worst monitor I've ever bought (credit goes to the Asus XG438Q). Anyway, the positives first: * 4K @ 120Hz in a usable size at 100% DPI scaling * G-Sync compatible * Very bright at max brightness. I run it at 35%. * No dead or stuck pixels * Excellent color range (subjectively IMO) Now for the cons. Oh my god: *** A pixel's color is affected by neighboring pixels above and below, sort of like a sharpening filter that can't be turned off. It was greatly improved by setting Black Boost to level 7 (0-10 scale), but noticeable artifacts remained, particularly on the blue/white borders. I've attached a photo with some areas circled in red to draw your attention to the blue lines that shouldn't be there. My Asus XG438Q had a very similar issue and I believe the panels used by the two monitors are close siblings from the same manufacturer so that was to be expected. On both monitors, the problem is less pronounced at the very bottom of the panel. To be fair, this is less of an issue with this Acer than with the Asus. * Motion blur is pretty bad. * Poor viewing angles. * At 144Hz, many frames are dropped, making this mode unusable. Confirmed by testufo Drop Frame Test and Black Frame Insertion Test.* At 144Hz, Variable Refresh Rate and HDR are not available.* Approximately half a centimeter of the screen edges are slightly darker (darker). That's not bad. I've seen far worse. * BGR sub-pixel layout (Historically, most LCD monitors use RGB). Look up how to use BGR on your operating system.* Poor sound quality from built-in speakers.* Wakes up very slowly.* Very bulky packaging. You could learn from TV manufacturers.
