Review on Acer CG437K Pbmiiippuzx 4K Display, 144Hz, Backlit, Compatible with DisplayHDR 3840x2160 by Jacob Hill

I've been waiting for 4k 120Hz monitors to drop in price for a while, but it hasn't really happened to the extent I was hoping for. The initial plan was to get an RTX 3080, but I figured I'd need a 4k monitor for that as well. I actually bought the monitor about a month before the Ampere was released and just left it in the box until I had a card powerful enough to run it. I really wanted at least a 32 inch monitor, maybe more if I could find one. Most 4K monitors have 27 inch panels and that's not what I was looking for. There have been a few 43 inch monitors on the market, this one and Asus. Acer's specs were slightly better, so I went with it. Keep in mind that my rig is primarily for gaming. Good - if you have a big table this is a great size for games. Almost your entire field of view is full --- It's *very* bright, I just increased the brightness to 23, which might be a little too much for some. I think at maximum brightness it's like looking at the sun. --- The remote control is very handy --- The OSD is comprehensive and easy to navigate --- It looks exceptionally well made and is much heavier than a similar sized TV. --- Color calibration is very good right out of the box --- Built-in USB hub (with USB-C) is handy --- Input lag isn't as bad as I thought. It's only slightly slower than my old 1080p monitor with 144Hz TN panel. Bad --- You can't have a 144Hz refresh rate and G-sync at the same time. However, you can do 120Hz with G-Sync --- Despite HDR1000 certification, HDR performance is not impressive --- Sound quality is below average in my opinion, I tried it and immediately went back to my Pro Media 2.1 -- - Programmable RGB strips are useless and unnecessary in my opinion. Viewing angles are perfectly acceptable, but not as good as IPS panels. I bought this monitor when it was $999.99, when Ampere and Big Navi came out the price went up. by 30%. I had an inkling this was coming, so I bought the monitor months before I really needed it. This $1,300 monitor's value proposition is falling. As larger (32+ inch) monitors come out I'm sure they will come down in price again. Future FLAD monitors may eat the CG437K's lunch, but they may be a while before they're available. I didn't see anything particularly bad about the text that others seem to have noticed. , but I have UI scaling enabled, again I mainly use this monitor for gaming and it's not very productive to work with yet.
