My sister recommended this detector. I bought it earlier this year knowing I would need it later when terrible fires started to rage in the West. We wanted to be able to check the room air so we knew when to turn on our air purifiers. We tested it when we first received it, but then pulled the batteries out and put it away for later use. We started using it regularly 2 weeks ago. While it's very accurate *on the run* (we compare its outdoor readings to local AQ and EPA AirNow sites), it's also very unreliable. When we turn it on, it often registers a "1" and stays there even if you turn it off and remove the batteries. It happens randomly and you can never be sure it will work. In addition, a weak battery is often registered, even though the batteries are actually brand new. However, if you use it with a backlit display, the batteries will drain very quickly. There is also no warranty information accompanying the device and no warranty information on their website (although there is an 'email'). us" for tech support. Conclusion: Having an accurate but unreliable particle detector is useless. If I can find a solution with Elitech, I will update this review.
