This item has a steel plate that will rust in the marine environment. The listing indicates that the stainless steel picture is obviously stainless steel, you can see the dullness. However, I did get a nice shiny steel plate on the back of the water pump. You can see the box with the description of the product and my magnetic tool holding it. I removed it from the pump. Luckily I'm using my old stainless steel plate from an old pump I removed because it was leaking through the drain hole.
