Review on ACDelco Professional Rear Driver Side Parking Brake Cable Assembly (Part No. 18P2590) by Jerimiah Augustine

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Worked on my 1991 MR2 (Non-Turbo 2.2L 5SFE)

Pros: Fits both the driver and passenger side of the rear parking brake cable on my 91 MR2. Significantly cheaper than anything I've found elsewhere ($24.12 currently on Revain) These appear to be quality cables. Cons: Doesn't come with a rubber boot to prevent water and such from getting on the cable (-1 star). Every other parts supplier so consistently only had "driver side" (or "rear left") available and didn't even mention the "passenger side" (or "rear right") cable, I assumed that those Both cables are slightly different lengths and must therefore be purchased separately. However, after seeing that my old cables are almost the same length and realizing that at least 2 people vouch for the driver side cable working on both the driver and passenger side, I decided to use 2 or these cables to try. Worked like a charm and saw absolutely no sign that either side wasn't working exactly as they should (clamped when the brake cable is pulled out, fully released and can easily spin the rotor by hand when released). Also note that the tuning fork side of the cable is missing a small accordion-shaped rubber boot. This cover is needed to prevent water and the like from getting on the cable and causing it to rust, which is probably one of the main causes of part failure in the first place. In addition to the rusting problem, if moisture gets into the cable and the temperature then drops below freezing, the parking brake may not release until it thaws. For what it's worth.

Pros
  • Handy item
Cons
  • So far so good
