I was looking for a video capture device to convert all my old VHS and Hi8 videos to digital. I've tried all the troubleshooting steps, contacted support, accepted every suggestion I could find, but it didn't work properly for me. In the manual (and elsewhere) was that if you format the hard drive to NTSC, continuously. If formatted in FAT32, it will cut your video into chunks with a maximum file size of 4GB. I had a 2TB hard drive that should be compatible. Recording is not possible when an NTSC-formatted hard disk is connected directly to the device. It seems to record but after the end I look at the list of files but there it is empty. I had better luck recording with GX Player via computer, but for some reason it automatically stopped recording after about 10 minutes (the time was set to unlimited). The file size was about 1.5 GB. I tried a FULL reformat of the hard drive but got the same results. The same thing happened whether I was recording to an external hard drive or my computer's hard drive. Support suggested that although it mentions that it's compatible with 2TB hard drives, there are sometimes problems with larger hard drives, so I bought a 32GB flash drive on their suggestion. I figured every file I write would be less than 32GB and I could just move it to my hard drive. With a flash drive, I was able to burn a longer video to the hard drive (about 13 minutes) by plugging it directly into the device. . However, the 30 minute video didn't record (as before, it appeared to be recording but the file never appeared after I finished recording). I've tried multiple times to completely reformat to NTSC. Same problem. And while recording via GX Player, inexplicably only 10 minutes were still allowed. I also had problems with a video saved to a flash drive. If I fast-forwarded or rewound the video at all, the audio would cut out when I resumed playback. Support suggested resetting the flash drive to the default (e.g. FAT32). Technically he recorded the entire video, but as mentioned it was split into chunks and the chunks were around 2GB, not 4GB. They also suggested that I download the mp4joiner program to glue them together. I will say that the captured video has no distortion or loss, but you don't really have to do all that work just to capture the video. I'd say there might have been an issue with my OS (recently purchased from Dell with Windows 10. It should be able to handle that), but I've had no success writing directly to the device either. It should just be plug and play. The support team tried to help but I'm just frustrated. I even tried replacing the block hoping it was just bad, but the replacement worked exactly the same. So it looks like some people have had success. Maybe this will work for you. Not so in my case. I will keep looking for a product to use.
