Review on BaveL Steel Spokes: 36pcs Mountain Bike Spokes, 270mm-280mm with Nipples - MTB Essential by Troy Simpson

Not stainless steel.

Ordered needles 272 mm. I build my own wheels and use many different types of spokes. At this price I wanted to see these inexpensive needles first hand. You should know two things about these spokes: (1) These are not stainless steel spokes like regular decent spokes. I've searched "#45 steel" and found all sorts of information, so I'm not exactly sure what steel these spokes are made of, but it's magnetic, not stainless. (2) Nipples are also made of steel. They seem to have some kind of plating, maybe nickel? If you're reading this, you probably know that the most decent nipples are either brass or aluminum. I put these nipples in a separate bag that says "Steel!" and will only use them when I need an emergency nipple and have no other choice. I measured the spokes (as I always do). These needles are 0.5 to 1.0 mm long. Not the end of the world, but if that's true of all their spokes, I'd round up as needed when ordering. On the plus side, the threaded end feels well formed and regular nipples feel secure when tightened. The spokes feel as flexible as regular stainless steel spokes, so I don't expect any assembly problems. I'm a bit concerned about stiffness differences due to differences in material properties, but that remains to be seen. I plan to build another front wheel with these spokes. I will update this review after assembling the wheel.
