So the air conditioning works even when the rest of the house is cool. Just put on a foil today

Knowing that related product reviews on Revain are sometimes merged, let me start by saying that this review is specific to the Gila Heat Control 3-in-1. Self-adhesive window film for the home. I bought this for my kitchen window because the midday sun through this window turns the kitchen into an oven and the thermostat is closest to the kitchen so the air conditioning works even when the rest of the house is cool. I just put the wrap on today and the sun isn't at the angle I normally have to worry about yet, so I can't tell if the wrap actually controls the amount of heat generated. Instead, I want to highlight some of the other movie claims so people know what to expect when purchasing. First, Gila claims that this film has low reflectivity. This is very similar to the truth. Although the sun isn't on the other side of my house yet, it's still high above me and I live in a southern state. When I went outside to check the appearance of the installed film, I found no mirror effect or significant glare. However, the outside of the window appears much darker than before installation. The effect is like a car with tinted windows. This brings me to the second and third point: the tint. Gila claims that this film is lighter in terms of hue. I do not think so. I have platinum film (which I didn't like because it was DARK and the light through it was too depressingly blue) and this one seems just as dark. My kitchen has gone from being a fun, if sometimes a bit too warm, place to a real den. Nothing is more annoying than having to turn on a light in the middle of a sunny day to find your way around a room with a fairly large window. If it weren't for the memories of last summer's utility bills, I would have torn them to pieces right now. Let's see how long I can hold out. Gila also claims it has a warmer tone than their platinum and titanium foils for a more natural look. I can say that it got a little warmer. Does it even look a bit close to natural? no The light is warm gray, not cool gray. It's still gray and it's still depressing. The effect is reminiscent of a blustery afternoon when the air is thick with dust. If this is what the light looks like through a foil covered window on a sunny day with a clear blue sky, then I'm not sure I want to know what it would look like on a REAL rainy day. Fourth, Gila claims that this film has less visual distortion than her other films. Not so. At points where the film is CLEAR I feel like I'm looking at the world through cheap sunglasses. But that brings me to my final point β€” and it's basically just a warning to those with pets. If you have a cat or dog with very fine hair, don't worry. There is literally nothing you can do to apply this material entirely without fur. It's plastic. Static electricity will build up when you remove the film from the substrate. I cleaned the kitchen thoroughly before applying, dried myself off and washed the window thoroughly. I swear the static electricity pulled the fur out of the other room. That doesn't help with the film's clarity (which, as noted, isn't that great anymore). While the neatly bonded areas are slightly warped, the areas around a few obtrusive cat hairs look ghastly. temporary solution until I can afford to replace the old single cell window with something newer and more energy efficient. At the moment it looks like a really good incentive to do this as early as possible.
