Review on πŸ”§ Enhanced Connectivity: OTC 3893 Encore Professional WI-FI Enabled Diagnostic Tool Kit by Michael Nard

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Cool device. good for diagnosing, testing and measuring

I've been using snap-on scanners since the stone days. My Solus Ultra is upgradable, and instead of paying for the latest 16.2 update, I decided to give Encore a try since it's only a few hundred more than a snap-on software update (I didn't get my Encore from Revain bought to shop around for these devices). for about $1,300 or less!) and my Snap On guy is gone. Based on the reviews I read, I was expecting a mediocre device. It's not relevant. Depending on what vehicle you're in, connection speeds can be slow or pretty fast, and to be honest my Solus Ultra is the same. Data flow and page load times really depend on how fast the CAN (or non-CAN) communication is with the vehicle being worked on. I love that OTC backs this product with a lifetime hardware warranty and software updates come from OTA and come regularly. The Android operating system seems to be a much "lighter" operating system compared to a scanner that uses the Windows operating system. It loads fast enough and the layout of the OTC software is very easy to learn and use. I'm a ProDemand subscriber and the Encore browser allows me to use ProDemand from the comfort of my car, saving me time and/or having to bring my laptop. Encore includes little hidden features like pinouts, sensor operation (even gear pan bolt patterns!), and videos to help you diagnose. Chrysler ABS modules, Encore requires a CCD adapter which is not included in the base kit) but my Solus Ultra also costs over 2x more than this unit so I can't complain for what I paid and using With every upgrade, Encore gets better and better better. All in all I don't think there is a better scanner in the $1300 range.

Pros
  • Lifetime hardware warranty with active diagnostics subscription
Cons
  • Not the best
