I decided to review this product in detail after seeing four positive reviews and one bad one. If a product has dozens of reviews and my experience matches that, I'm not worried. I've already installed one of these in three bathrooms in my house (along with a low flow shower head to save some money at the same time). Installation took five minutes at most with the right tools to remove the shower head from the pipe. No tools are required to actually install the filter, you simply tighten it by hand. They include Teflon tubing so you don't need consumables. I think one reviewer wondered if this would reduce flow out of the shower head. I chose a model that is 25% smaller than stock and 25% larger than the genuine Delta Low Flow 1.85 GPM model which has over 200 reviews and a four star rating. Users of the previously installed unit really like the combined installation. Looking closely at the filter, I believe it may reduce the "downstream" water pressure at the shower head and the resulting GPM somewhat. However, the literature claims a standard speed of 2.5 GPM. I would argue that the Delta faucet's reinforced turbine design is a better choice than a standard 1.5 GPM shower head, as the 1.5 GPM shower heads already get mixed reviews. Any drop below 1.5 GPM from this filter is likely to be noticeable, and while Al Gore would commend you for being so eco-friendly, it could very well be negatively impacting the quality of your shower. I'm a little surprised by the 2.5 GPM claim as the filter takes up all of the space inside the case and is densely packed with what appears to be copper metal shavings/speckles. And if it's about to need a filter change, will it still put out the same GPM as a fresh install? Please note that whatever is in the filter I seriously doubt it will end up in your water stream as the filter mesh is tightly woven. Tighten the fitting/fastening. I didn't notice the product information on the bottom of the easy open box on the first one I bought because it's brown like cardboard. It turns out that in addition to the tape, you get an adhesive sticker (like an oil change reminder sticker) with a number to request replacement filters. The product information that comes with it is INCREDIBLY DETAILED, and here comes the delivery of it all: it claims this filter removes more chlorine than any other model, reminds you to apply Teflon tape clockwise, and includes an exploded view showing an accessory shower head from this company . for sale (not that you think buying their model will give you an advantage over a well-tested alternative). It claims to remove 75% of free chlorine within six months or 5,000 gallons, whichever comes first. It claims to remove "combined chlorine (sodium hypochlorite) and hydrogen sulfide, the latter of which is said to cause odors in the water, but they don't. Percentages for the latter two aren't given. They point out that it's tested and certified by "NSF Internationalโ to remove 75% free chlorine, whoever NSF is. It says their system removes more chlorine "over a wider temperature range". The maximum operating temperature is 120 degrees and the maximum pressure it can withstand can is 125 psi. And a small caveat that "actual specifications may vary. Chloramines" when using this material to treat your water. There are some "notes on the NFS test report" but they are rather technical, although a useful data point on the NSF standards is that a passing test result removes 50% free chlorine (compared to their result of 75%). A lot of useful information for a small brochure. The design of the plastic body seems to suggest that when changing the filter, either the entire unit easily unscrews from the pipe, making it easier to unscrew the two halves of the body when tightened in use, or the showerhead part unscrews on its own. In any case, the filter could have easily been replaced if you installed it correctly (and I wonder if the one-star reviewer installed it correctly). The filter is only inserted into the housing one way, so its construction is reliable and the housing is made of high-impact / durable plastic. On the side of the filter that faces the showerhead it says "Slim Line" in raised white letters, which is a bit of a nuisance for me as I don't like looking at the product label in my house, so I stocked the filter with the instead Installed face down to be visible to the user. The filter must be "activated" upon entering the shower by turning the water to "Full Hot". The block only adds 1.5 inches to the length of your shower pipe by sinking into the side facing the shower pipe, and the resulting shape of the block makes it impossible to install the filter backwards. BTW, their optional shower head includes a "flow restrictor" on the diagram (looks like a washer you put on a screw) that doesn't come with this unit, although they don't list the GPM of their shower head in the description. I know many details but the description on Revain doesn't explain all the features and specs and hopefully this will be helpful. The disclaimer that "actual specifications may vary" looks like the template their attorney insisted on and they have no way of knowing how closely your water matches the NSF test report. The only question mark about this device is "chloramine" treated water, which has not been tested for free chlorine reduction. I will probably ask my water company if they use chloramine and if so look for one that has been tested and rated for it as free chlorine seems to be an important thing to remove. I would return my second unit if I could find another model that would solve the chloramine problem. You'll probably know if the chlorine filter is working if your skin doesn't dry out as much as an unfiltered shower does, and you'll avoid health problems associated with inhaling nebulized chlorine. Chloramine is a question mark hanging over a product that is otherwise pretty impressive in design, fit and finish, and detailed explanations and instructions. The price of replacement filters isn't listed, but they look pretty cheap. If they tested it in the presence of chloramine to convince the buyer that it would still work I would give it a five star rating.
