Doesn't work for my dual monitors

I was hoping to use this to create a dual monitor setup for my laptop. Initially tried to connect to the DP port and the computer did not recognize the monitor at all. Then I tried using HDMI ports, and as a result, the image on the monitor appears and disappears quite often. Laptop type: HP Elitebook Monitor type: Planar PLL2110W
