Review on Temtop LKC 1000S: Advanced Formaldehyde Pollution Temperature Test, Measurement & Inspection Device by Michael Hogate

This monitor measures PM 2.5, PM 10, VOCs and formaldehyde. The particle sensor seems to be very accurate. I tested it outside a few times and it was very close to one of the purple air monitors, not too far away. This seems to apply to both bad and good air quality. It also appears to be very sensitive to VOCs. It usually measures the VOC in my home between 0.14 and 0.19. My wife uses Noxema cleansing pads on her face before bed, and one of the main ingredients is isopropyl alcohol. I had the monitor on and it showed 0.18 for VOC. My wife took out one of the Noxema pads and within 10 seconds the VOCs started to rise. The monitor was on the other side of the room, but it was picking up volatile organic compounds (probably alcohol) from the pad. The VOC was at 5:00 for 5 minutes and then started to drop. I repeated this the next night and he did the same. I don't trust formaldehyde readings at all. I have 0.04 at home and 0.02 outside in the fresh air. I noticed that it is affected by the VOC levels. If the VOC is between 0.15 and 0.18, formaldehyde always shows 0.03. When the VOC exceeds 0.20, the formaldehyde jumps to 0.05. When I tested the monitor with the Noxema pad and got a VOC level of 5.0, the formaldehyde level was 2.34. I don't think Noxema pads contain formaldehyde. I'm not sure if the device calculates a specific amount of formaldehyde based on VOCs or if something else is going on. All I know is that this is the second of these devices I've had (the first was returned because it always had an AQI of 0 and had virtually no particles) and they both performed the same. Another plus is the Elitech support. . They worked with me while I had the original defective unit and sent me a new one. They regularly checked that everything was working properly. It seems like they care about their customers. I'm not entirely sure there is a good consumer device for measuring formaldehyde. I don't think this one really measures it. But this device does a good job of detecting other air quality issues.
