Review on ๐Ÿ”ช Sculpey Tools Clay Blades - Flexible, Wavy, and Rigid Blade Set | Polymer Oven-Bake Clay Tool for All Skill Levels and Crafts by Michelle Langley

Great idea and great sound end products. But poor packaging, storage and security!

So, full disclosure: I LOVE Polyform products and I love that they are always looking for ways to make clay makers work to facilitate . But this particular item falls short of its usually high bar due to several things. The positives first, these blades are EXTREMELY sharp and make it very easy to perform a variety of cuts without having to sit back while doing things by hand. The handles make it easier for your fingers to cut older or harder clay without the risk of that you tear your fingertips off. and close enough together that you have enough even pressure to make the cuts very thin if they are precise. The stiffer blade is also longer, giving you a little more wiggle room when slicing blocks. The package also includes instructions for assembling, disassembling, and swapping the handles from blade to blade (an obvious improvement over the packaging, which previous reviews say didn't previously include). HOWEVER, there are a few pitfalls here. These blades are so sharp that getting them out of the box was a real challenge as they were so intricately glued to the plastic that you risk cutting yourself trying to get them out. At first I thought it would be easy because both outer blades faced in and the gripping edge faced out. but they were all glued together with no blade covers (another minus and risk for the fingers), and when I finally after removing all the tape (several pieces) they still had sticky goo, needed to be cleaned again and already risked dying Ruining the blade coating and cutting yourself (again) in the process. THEN the handles were so rigid that they were difficult to assemble and disassemble, and they posed (once again!) the danger of cutting yourself, especially when moving from blade to blade. I understand the need for a sturdy stylus, but there are better ways to do it! This package should contain a cover for each blade edge and a set of handles for each. Also, the stiff main blade was deformed right out of the box, meaning I had to manipulate it to straighten it again. I've seen much better hard blades that were much safer and more heavily packaged. Personally, it took a lot more effort than it was worth. and I will look for third party blade cases at my own expense and/or make a set myself. Cardboard so my poor fingers don't get hurt. Polyform lets you do more to keep your clay craftsmen safe. which were much safer and more heavily packed.
