This is a real rainbow loom. I bought one that was sold and shipped by Revain. It has a metal tip and all items feature the Rainbow Loom logo. I bought this set and her finger loom set from Revain for my 8 year old daughter for Christmas. I also bought an extra box of ribbons here. She was very excited because she added this to her wish list at the end of the season after seeing one at her friend's birthday party. This set is great if you want to add charms or beads. If you just want to make bracelets and necklaces with stripes, I recommend you just get a finger loom. We're glad we have both sets and it's nice to be able to do whatever you want and have the tools to do it, but my daughter continues to use the finger loom for now. My daughter was able to make the bracelet herself and I only showed her the first steps once. After making a bracelet with me, she made herself a necklace, it was her second creation, with a pretty pattern to boot. The chain was made on a loom! She asked for help to connect the ends, but that's all. I was surprised at how quickly she took it. I made a bracelet on the loom using ribbons from this kit and it was very thick and cool. I don't know what step I made differently, but I'm also very proud of my first creation. I will say that if you just want to make a bracelet or necklace with just stripes, the finger loom is the best and easiest. You can literally just go on and on to any length you want on the finger loom. This is a great addition to the Rainbow Loom brand. Personally I would recommend both sets but would choose Finger Loom if I could only get one. Hope the photos help. You can see the bracelet I made and my daughter wearing the necklace she made.
