Review on 🚐 Enhance Your Van's Ventilation with Ventline VP-543 12V Smoke Roof Air Vent in Brown by Guerdon Draper

Revainrating 3 out of 5

BASE! Overpriced, requires variable speed, poor sealing

Overpriced $65 each? There doesn't seem to be any competition for a small air vent with a 6-inch footprint. For $5, the ventline was required to include a variable speed switch, and for another $5, a temperature sensor. The design is ok but the quality of materials is average and poor attempts at weather resistance. There's a plastic case with a (hopefully) galvanized steel frame. The dome bolts look like raw steel even without waterproof pads. It is recommended to replace them with brass or stainless steel screws and add a rubber washer. There is a foam weatherstrip under the dome that fits unevenly and doesn't look weatherproof and could potentially trap moisture. There should be optional colored domes, but I only found this dark smoke color. On the plus side, it's very easy to install and can be found in different versions everywhere. See my setup for this switch here. The fan draws less than 2 amps. So you only need one switch with this rating. This can greatly reduce the size of the variable PWM switch. Higher wattage switches require power transistors which require heatsinks etc. This is also an opportunity to use better wiring coming out of the vent.
