Good phone, mediocre Manual

I chose this phone because it has the features I wanted (an answering machine with a decent message length and speakerphone). Haven't tried all the features yet (slow motion, intercom, speakerphone) but I found it easy to use and set up. Specifically, I disabled call filters and call notifications. Call filtering is nice to use sometimes, but I didn't want it to be on for all calls. There were several small problems. First, the "leave message" tone is a bit high pitched and doesn't work well over my phone. I used a landline phone to see if it was working properly. Then the "TAD" indicator used to indicate that you have voicemail on the phone system is always on and may or may not be reset. It doesn't really matter, since I don't use this function. The manual doesn't seem to be in sync with the phone's firmware. Namely: there is no mention of using caller ID to set the date and time; There is no mention of using the auto-answer's backup button to step back through the menu. The trash button (to delete messages) also deletes caller ID entries, but that's not in the manual; There is no mention of the play/pause button flashing red to indicate that a message is pending (this may also apply to TAD messages). Caller ID only lists names in the first level menu and puts * next to new calls. However, you have to go down one level to get the name and number. I have a separate caller ID field that always shows you new callers (name and number) first, even if they have called before, so you can see the new incoming calls. No, that's not the case here. It's not mentioned, but the trash button (to delete messages) also works to delete unwanted caller IDs. After a power failure, the phone will ask you to confirm the date and time. It shows the time (for at least 1/2 hour of my outage) but still requires confirmation of the date and time. Another annoyance is the ringer volume on the wireless device. It cannot be adjusted in increments of less than 3 divisions. 3 bars is too loud and the next lower setting cuts the bell off. What good are smaller increments if you can't adjust them. I haven't found a way to do this. The phone works quite well and apart from a small annoyance that the manual doesn't match the phone very well and the cordless phone's ringer volume, it was very easy to set up and use. Annoying why it got 4 stars out of 5.
