We have a metal rod and have been using metal glides for a while. Not only is the sound driving me insane, but metal on metal seems to scratch the stem over time. We switched to a double pole with metal slats and a fancy curtain on the outside and a plastic liner with those plastic slats on the inside. They look good, are light and glide smoothly and silently. I love her
