Review on πŸ”Š Enhanced 3000AE Piezo Buffer Pre-Amplifier with EQ by Barcus Berry by Ginger Peterson

defective product; Poor customer support

I don't play with the pickup very often but about a year and a half ago I decided to give myself the best and everyone I consulted said good things about this preamp and the pickup mostly gets used with it sold. So although I've had a pickup and preamp for a while my actual total usage is maybe 15 hours - like I said I don't play amps. very often. My first impression was that I noticed that the input of this preamp was weird. This requires a proprietary cable that BB sells with it. Otherwise you need to use an adapter. A few weeks ago I was hearing very badly during the show. The sound engineer and I tried a few things, including changing all the cables, using a different cartridge, changing the battery and adjusting the potentiometers on the preamp. During our break the audience noticed that I was almost inaudible and the longer we played the worse it got. Another, who builds effects pedals from scratch, tested the preamp and concluded that the potentiometers were defective. Well I believe any company can get a bad batch of parts and I was sure BB who have a reputation for quality would help me. The next morning I emailed the support address on the Barcus-Berry website. Almost a month later I received no reply so I called the number provided. The person I spoke to told me a few interesting things: 1. The support email address was for someone who no longer works at BB.2. Even though the product was practically new, they wanted me to pay for the repair because I've had it for over a year. So basically they used the technical side to not stand behind their product. That's not good business and that's not how you build a loyal customer base.
