I got this in addition to my canister filter to try to reduce maintenance and add even more biological filtration to my 55g goldfish tank and this sponge filter is a champ! Inexpensive but well made, with fine-pored foam, it made a noticeable difference in tank cleanliness. It's a gentle current, but it definitely attracts dirt, food, and other debris. The air bladders are the same as my previous Aerostone and hooking it up to my airline was very easy. I really like how I can adjust the height and angle of the bubbles, as well as the angle of the sponges so I can easily tilt them away from the wall. When it's time for tank maintenance, it's very easy to take off one or both sponges, squeeze them into a bucket of water from the tank (and marvel at all the meanness that comes out), and put them back in. While this filter alone will definitely not do the trick for dirty fish like my two goldfish, this is a great value purchase to help me re-filter my aquarium.
