Review on Denon AVR-X1100W: Premium 7.2 Channel 4K Ultra HD AV Receiver with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi (Discontinued Model) by Elli Navarro

Best AVR I've ever tried

I've had it for a few months now and am very happy with the performance and features. I am also replacing an old Teac AVR. I first tried the Sony DR-840 and was happy with it until there was some hum on channels 6 and 7. It went back. Then I tried the Onkyo nr626 and was not satisfied with it in every way. Setup was cumbersome and fewer features too. Eventually the HDMI transmission failed and it came back. Then I tried this Denon and it was the best in almost every way. The setup was the most thorough (I even found myself switching the polarity to the surround speaker) and the simplest. The sound is very good, although I'm not the most sensitive music lover. The choice of sound modes is good. The features are also the best. The setting of all zones is unique to this receiver, so I can send HDMI input to zone 2 (like Chromecast). Spotify's built in 'connect' feature is great and I use it all the time, only criticism comes from time to time, wifi/network cuts out for some reason. not sure why. Our internet is patchy (sudden link) and I also use a number of 2.4GHz devices (one for Zone 2 wireless speakers), both of which can complicate things. Not a big problem since it's so rare. The standby power is 4W, this device also has a power saving mode which I use. Even in Eco mode standby, if I'm using the remote phone apps (Android) for Spotify or Denon anywhere within Wi-Fi range, the unit turns on. Looking back, neither Sony nor Onkyo could compete with this device. Kinda glad they failed like that and I was finally able to stumble across it. Time will tell how it holds up but it also came with a better 3 year warranty.

Pros
  • Always liked
Cons
  • Low repairability
