I was originally attracted to this coffee grinder because it can be operated with one hand, but the item is almost 100 percent plastic, the only metal or hard surface is the metal rod in the Center , everything else is soft plastic . So this means that the grinder itself cannot simply grind the pepper, resulting in the plastic gears slipping against each other and not actually turning the plastic burr. a sign that it will not last. Due to the poor quality of materials, this item lasted two dinners before it stopped working entirely. There are four tiny screws that attach the ears to the top base. I took them off, examined the plastic gears and found that it was junk at the time. This is a great looking product but save your money as it doesn't work. Find something with a metal or ceramic finish, it will likely last longer.
