Review on Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM lens, black by Mateusz Kazana ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good product, not disappointed.

I poyuzal it and realized that 1.8 half tos covers all my needs for half a tos. Well, the engine is noisy at 1.8, well, it looks funny, put on a hood and now it’s not bad. Nuts in bokeh at 2.2 and 2.5 are almost invisible. A half toss at 1.4 I think is not worth the money they ask for it. Here 85 at 1.8 is another matter, and yet I will leave "plastic fantastic 1.8". A fifty-kopeck piece at 1,4 is generally not a bad lens, it seems to be solid, sharp, the autofocus speed seems to be sufficient, and the picture is pleasant, but these two shortcomings cover everything! I think the working aperture of this half-tone is from 2.2, and sometimes it is better to set it to 2.8. Aperture 1,4 can, in principle, be used, but the flu will be very small and point 2 in shortcomings prevents you from getting where you need to.

Pros
  • 1) Looks more solid (than 1.8, without a hood), 2) focuses 5% faster (hello to the ancient micro usm motor built in 1993), 3) 10% sharper than 1,8, and in general, in fact, this is the sharpest half-tone from kenon (who doubts, look at the MTF charts). 1.2 L gives in to both state employees, but it's all about the drawing, and this is the most for connoisseurs of an artistic touch (something akin to Gelik 40 is expensive, but top photographers buy and post photos at 500px and take first place, because the drawing in bokeh is a cool thing) 4) the case, in principle, is well embled (except for one thing, but about this in shortcomings) 5) the drawing is still delicious, a little nicer than that of 1,8 (the planar scheme does its job), this is not a nauseating sigma for you, which seems to be solid, but you don’t like the pictures (quiet horror bokeh)
Cons
  • And now about a fly in the ointment in a barrel of honey 1) the terrible thoughtfulness of the design, namely, it concerns the retractable trunk. and it’s very easy to break it, you just need not to push the trunk and lightly press the bag in the transport or somewhere else, and the kenon company from 93 does not think about this joint, they don’t care, they pump the loot. By the way, you can save the trunk with a hood, but why can’t it be saved constructively from the very beginning ? ! 2) unpredictability of focus hit. Specifically, I came across a lens from a friend (it had a small mileage, it still smelled of novelty) and I decided to try it (well, like I need it or not). I tested the lens on the ruler and marks, it hits exactly, I thought it was strange, and why they scold him. I took him to a photo session, and here I understood everything, I just saw the light. Of the 3 photos, this only got on one, and the whole ambush is that in one photo there is a back focus, and on the other front, a quiet, quiet horror. Even on my 1.8 half toss (which hits the marks exactly), the misses are 30-40 percent, and here only 1 out of 3 is on point. Many will say yes, it’s nonsense, you just can’t aim, but no, I aim strictly at the contrast area + I have an eyepiece magnifier in full frame and believe me, I perfectly see the focus and where it walks.
