Cables later. This cable was exactly what you are buying, a 3.5mm cable NOT intended to be used for purposes where the sound passes through more than one source. For my home setup I use two audio devices which normally do NOT cause "hum" audio feedback in my headphones but with this cable it does. You have to buy a ground to make it go away or the Audio-I /O toggle to isolate and repair it. Only need this cable for speakers, car radio etc. 100% 100% guaranteed but if it's more complicated, buy a more expensive, good quality cable and save yourself the hassle.
