They definitely add the finishing touches to the door hinge lever and latch hook. You can prevent the latch hook cover from breaking by bending the piece over the center slot and tucking it UNDER the hook. I think people break them because they're trying to pinch the hook and the plastic breaks because the plastic flexes too much in one direction on either side of the slot.
