It took me a while to learn how to use this gravel vacuum. This is described as self-launching, but I wasn't sure which move I should have used. Personally, I got it to work (maybe there's a better way) - move it up and down on the water surface. Once I start it will have a nice stable stream. I have a 10 gallon tank and it doesn't empty too quickly; I have enough time to clear the gravel before too much water runs out of the tank. So far I haven't had any problems picking up gravel. I was afraid my fish would get sucked in because the hole is big enough, but it stays very far from him (even if he did, he wouldn't go very far, but it could hurt him). My only complaint is that it doesn't come with anything to hold the end in the bucket. It's manageable. Pros: Easy to learn, good price. Cons: no way to attach it to a bucket.
