Review on Monoprice Zero G Curved Gaming Monitor 35" - Immersive Ultrawide Display for Unmatched Gaming Experience by Ted Wilson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great display for work and play

When asked to honestly review Monoprice's 35-inch Curved Zero G Gaming Monitor, I immediately said YES! They put on some amazing shows and the timing was perfect as I recently sold my Xbox One X and rejoined the PC Master Race after a half century hiatus. The 35-inch Monoprice gaming display is an ultra-widescreen display with a resolution of 3440 x 1440 at 100Hz with a 21:9 aspect ratio. Right out of the box, it was very easy to set up. I was very surprised at how light it was when I unpacked it. You can just use the included stand or VESA wall mount, or use the display mount. The only thing that bothers me about the stand that comes with it is that you can't adjust the height. In fact, you can hardly tilt the screen up or down. If you're looking for more flexibility, consider purchasing a third-party VESA stand or mount. The monitor has 2 HDMI ports, a display port and a 3.5 audio output. There's no USB-C or USB-A connectivity What struck me is that it has a row of red lights on the back as part of its aesthetic, which looks really cool if you're into that kind of stuff. I personally don't care. What's really important to me is performance, and that's where this monitor excels, especially at this price point. Of course, since it's a gaming monitor, I connected my gaming PC, where Windows 10 automatically detected the hardware, resolution and frequency. At 3440 x 1440 or 2K it looks amazing. Not quite edge-to-edge, but the bezels were thin enough to appreciate. The display was very responsive on Windows, and the ability to have multiple spreadsheets on an ultrawide screen was a game changer. The websites, videos and photos looked amazing and I just enjoyed working on them all day. But you're not really buying that for work, are you? I launched Doom 2016 and set the game to an ultra-wide aspect ratio, and it's been a hell of a good experience. I refresh the display at 60Hz, so I really appreciate the higher frame rate. Keep in mind that not all games natively support the 21:9 aspect ratio so you end up with black bars like in Paladins, but almost every modern game took advantage of that 100Hz, which was very smooth. When I connected this to my 2018 MacBook Pro, working with Final Cut Pro as well as other productivity software was very smooth. If you want to take advantage of that 100Hz on a Mac, make sure it's connected via a Displayport or adapter that supports HDMI 2.0. Yes, there are gaming laptops with the same resolution at 144Hz, but if you're trying to find a 35-inch one, they start at $650 and up. I say it competes with the Alienware 1900 which costs around $1000. Now compare that to the Monoprice display specs and you can see a price difference of around $600. The Monoprice Zero G 35-inch curved gaming monitor offers excellent value and excellent image quality. Also note that Monoprice includes a 1-year PixelPerfect warranty. So if you find a dead pixel, they will take care of you. While it's not perfect with a few downsides like lack of USB-C connectivity and a very basic stand, I can confidently recommend this display for its performance, display quality, and value.
