I purchased this kit in the Hoping to use this to replace some of the microswitches on my gaming mouse as it was starting to do a horrible left/right double click. I had never used a soldering iron before so I wasn't sure what to expect. Many guides suggested models with temperature control when choosing a base/digital temperature, but I didn't want to spend that much as it was just an overhaul (so far). Of course I chose this set. 1) Temperature: The iron gets hot enough to melt the lead-free solder used in most consumer electronics today. The iron heats up to 450C all the way through, but setting it to just over 350C and tinning the tip did the trick. 2) Solder Sucker: God, this thing is incredibly comfortable. One of the reasons I bought this instead of the slightly more expensive standalone iron without any extras. It works great for more widely spaced poles, but I had a hard time using it for pole groups that were only a few millimeters apart. The tip is too blunt to provide good suction around it. Like this article very much. 3) Solder Wick: This is my first time soldering so I can't judge the quality of the wick but I can say it didn't work for my application. Basically I was trying to use it to clean the last piece of solder off a group of contacts but it just wouldn't penetrate. I ended up having to get my hands on an air compressor and break some rules with an airbrush tip. Goggles, long sleeve shirt and gloves! The higher quality wick that comes with this set would probably be a good choice. 4) Solder Wire: I bought extra 60/40 wire in addition to the materials that come with the kit and to be honest I didn't notice much of a difference. between two. Good. I used the materials included in the kit as a can for desoldering. 5) Other Extra Goodies: You can probably find creative ways to use almost every extra tool that comes with the kit. Small screwdrivers that I really needed to take apart some of the plastic clips inside the mouse. This is useful. I wrapped some tape around the tweezers and used it as a clamp to keep the switches straight while soldering. Overall, this set is very handy and got the job done. The cost is less than buying a new mouse!
